"Even as a child, I wanted to teach computers what only humans can do. Today I do that and live my dream."

Lars embodies the scientific core of Dornheim. He sees himself in the tradition of his ancestors, who have been active as entrepreneurs since 1838. With Dornheim Consulting, he builds on this spirit, but started from scratch in a modern technology field.

His path is characterized by technical excellence: He learned programming within a few days as a child. After winning the state prize in 1995 at "Jugend forscht" (Youth Research) with an AI project and studying computer science with top marks and admission to the German Academic Scholarship Foundation, he spent several years researching at the university in the field of medical image analysis. In parallel, he worked on early AI systems at corporations such as Siemens and British Telecom.

Jana ensures that complex algorithms become applicable. As the daughter of mathematicians, she learned to handle technology early on. After graduating from high school with top marks and studying computational visualization, she researched for years at the university on medical visualization in direct cooperation with doctors and published her results internationally.

A highlight of her time in the USA: In the team of computer pioneer and Turing Award winner (the "Nobel Prize" of computer science) Alan C. Kay, she worked on a 3D learning environment that became one of the direct precursors for the now world-famous programming software for children "Scratch". Today she brings her experience in usability and design into our projects.

Our Roots

Born from Research.
Tested in Medicine.

Our history began in the research laboratories of the University of Magdeburg, where we dedicated ourselves to the automated understanding of medical 3D image data. The challenge: While industrial image processing is designed for standardized parts, the human body is organic and individual. Where standard algorithms fail, we became specialists in handling precisely this type of organic and "difficult" data.

To translate our results into practice, we founded Dornheim Medical Images GmbH in 2009. The result is a portfolio of globally established products, such as the complex image analysis software Dornheim Segmenter and the Dornheim DICOM Viewer, used in 189 countries. These were later joined by the world's first interactive 3D anatomical case collection, Dornheim Real Anatomy, and our medical Dornheim.Cloud. Most recently, we launched the Dornheim AI Platform. The technological depth of these products forms the foundation of our consulting services.

It quickly became apparent that our ability to recognize unpredictable and "natural" structures in medical data was in high demand far beyond the medical field. This led to the founding of Dornheim Consulting. We applied our algorithms to new domains – from detecting dangerous objects in airport X-ray scans to intelligent traffic monitoring via stereo camera and radar signal analysis.

We have established ourselves as experts in Machine Vision and Deep Learning, specifically for cases where standard methods fail. For us, the current wave of AI is nothing new; instead, it brings us back to our roots. We offer technology and AI consulting grounded in decades of mathematical experience – going far beyond what most providers without a deep technical foundation can deliver.
